Herringer has been a member of the NYSSCPA since 2005. One of her goals as president will be diversity and inclusion within the profession, expanding the work of the NYSSCPA Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She has been part of the NYSSCPA’s Women’s Initiative, which will host a Women’s Initiative Conference next January.

Before becoming president, Herringer was a member of the NYSSCPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and served as past chair of the NYSSCPA Accounting and Auditing Oversight and Auditing Standards committees. She was also a member of the Board’s Audit Committee in 2014. In addition, Herringer has served on a number of statewide and chapter committees at the NYSSCPA over the years. She is a current member of the NYSSCPA Legislative Task Force and also serves as a member of the governing council for the American Institute of CPAs.

At BDO USA, Herringer is currently the firm’s National Assurance Group partner, where she’s responsible for ensuring firm compliance with the applicable auditing standards through review, development and updating of BDO’s methodology and supporting forms and templates, along with responding to questions from the field on audit-related matters. Herringer also participates in the standards-setting process through the development of comment letters on auditing and reporting matters. She has spent more than 11 years at BDO as part of the firm’s National Assurance practice, focusing on the auditing standards of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.

“Jan’s inclusion initiatives will be crucial in continuing our goal of building a diversified profession that values and attracts the best talent for the future of the profession,” said NYSSCPA Executive Director and CEO Joanne S. Barry in a statement. “That, coupled with Jan’s respect on a national level in the auditing standards arena, will provide a year of robust representation for the members of the NYSSCPA.”
